Grayson County, Texas Launches Free Property Alerts to Help Residents Spot Suspicious Filings
Homeowners in Grayson County, Texas have a new free tool to help keep an eye on filings tied to their property. According to a KXII report, the county now offers the Nuemo property alerts program at no cost.
How the program works
Residents sign up by creating an account on the county clerk's website. They add their email address, their property address and any keywords they want flagged. If a document is filed that matches the details in their account, such as their name or address, they receive an alert.
Why it matters
Property fraud can be difficult to notice. Scammers may try to file paperwork that affects a home without the owner knowing, and owners often have no reason to check public records regularly. An alert system puts that information in front of the owner soon after a matching document is filed, instead of leaving them to discover a problem later.
Grayson County Commissioner Lindsay Wright (Pct. 3) told KXII that fraud is hard to catch or flag. Because of that, she said, it is important to work with local agents, title companies and lenders. She also encouraged residents to use the free service before their property becomes a target, rather than waiting until something goes wrong.
An alert does not mean fraud has occurred. Many filings involving a name or address are routine. The value is in being told, so you can look at the document and decide whether it makes sense.
